Castolovice
We are delighted to be able to include/offer a truly exclusive opportunity for small groups of friends who would like to rent a suite of rooms at one of the most beautifully restored, privately-owned Czech castles. It is perfectly situated for exploring the Eastern part of the country, where there are many private castles and collections. We can arrange all your visits to these places, with either picnics or recommendations for local inns, or you can wander around the castle garden, or rent a horse carriage and explore the game park. NB The area is also well-known for the riding and shooting.
Castolovice is owned by Diana Phipps Sternberg, a well-known interior designer who previously lived between New York and London, and the interiors have been featured in Architectural Digest, among other magazines. It is situated 90 minutes to the east of Prague, in the countryside near the interesting town of Hradec Kralove. Its Renaissance Knights' Hall, one of the largest in Bohemia, has a painted and coffered ceiling depicting scenes from the Old Testament. The family have owned the castle since the 17th century, and it was returned to Diana after the fall of Communism. She has put in sterling work to restore the family treasures, including many noted paintings, and the exquisite guest bedrooms have her personal touch, as does the library.
The ideal is to combine a weekend at Castolovice with time in Prague, with interesting visits - to Kutna Hora, the great country houses at Kacina and Kuks etc. - en route. Packages start from €500 per couple per weekend for accommodation and a guide/manager, and are based on a minimum of six people.
